(A) FACTORY ENGRAVED COLT 1851 NAVY THIRD MODEL PERCUSSION REVOLVER

Classic Colt percussion revolver in typical 7 - 1/2" configuration, with factory scrollwork executed by Gustave Young or his shop, with rolling scrollwork, "pillow" patent on left side of frame, wolf's head motif hammer, eagle on left side of barrel assembly, and interspersed tulip heads. Cylinder with Naval engagement scene. Matching full or partial serial numbers observed on barrel assembly, rammer, wedge, cylinder, frame, trigger guard, and butt; barrel assembly, frame, trigger guard, and butt have the "dot" punch mark, believed to be used to indicate factory engraving. "A" observed on barrel, cylinder, and top of gripstrap; "K" on left side of trigger guard. Silver-plated brass grip strap and trigger guard. Piano varnish grips of a later date. Accompanied by a previous auction listing of this item. CONDITION: Good, retaining approximately half of the reapplied blue finish, with cold blue applied throughout. Frame with traces of case colors. Engraving is crisp. Grips with traces of silver plate throughout, approximately 10%, more in protected areas such as around the trigger guard and top of backstrap. Piano varnish grips of later date, with one area of varnish lifted at top of right side of grip, approximately .5 cm by 1cm. Mechanically fine, bore is good with visible rifling and frosting throughout.
