A FAMILLE VERTE BISCUIT FIGURE OF GUANYIN IN A GROTTO, KANGXI PERIOD

China, 1662-1722. Well modeled, the Goddess of Mercy seated on a lotus pedestal rising from a dark craggy grotto towering behind her, issuing two bamboo shoots framing the deity, a small vase stands on a small platform above her right shoulder, the biscuit glazed in dark-brown, cream-white, and green with the hair painted black. The base left unglazed revealing the buff ware. The back with two apertures.

Provenance: From a British private collection.
Condition: Fair condition with minor wear and firing irregularities, few short hairlines, minuscule chips and small losses to exposed areas, old repairs and minor touchups to some lotus petals and the figure.
