A FINE AND RARE 19TH CENT CHINESE ROSEWOOD CENTER TABLE

[ translate ]

The outstanding antique example demonstrates quality of carving, patina, size, workmanship and presence that the owners searched for across decades to serve the purpose of a circular room within the tower on front of their stately three story Tudor home designed by the esteemed Kansas City architect George Mathews (1860-1903), just before his untimely death.

The impressive table is set with a large, thick, inset rouge marble top carved with twenty-eight scallops and set within a confirming rosewood frame having an equal number of rounded scallops- each iteration displaying an elaborate panel of pierce-carved fruit and foliage - no two alike. The top is mortised to a massive columnar reeded post above an encirclement of upward rising acanthus leaves above an even more amazing encirclement of nearly 40 outward radiating carved wood loops or half- rings encircling the support above the massive spreading, domed two-tier base that is, as some say, 'carved to death', in a relief of elaborate fruit and foliates, all raised on four strong scroll feet.

Measures 33.5 inches high x 49.5 inches diameter.

Without proof of exemption, be aware that internet sales tax applies to all Internet transactions and local sales tax may apply to local pick-up transactions.

Please be aware that this lot is too large to ship by conventional carrier such as UPS, USPS or FedEx and will instead require local pick-up, delivery by a freight carrier or delivery by a blanket-wrap shipper. The cost most likely will not be low.
Condition Report: Very good condition throughout, no damage, repair or wear and solid as a rock.
