(A) FINE CASED, YOUNG ENGRAVED COLT 1849 POCKET PERCUSSION REVOLVER.

This incredibly attractive Colt Model 1849 Pocket revolver was manufactured in 1858 and features wonderful Gustave Young factory engraving, his foliate scroll covering the barrel lug, loading lever lug, frame, and hammer. Hammer is engraved on each side with a classic wolf head, and an additional signature wolf head is concealed within a scroll on the left side of the barrel lug. Revolver is fitted with a polish blued 6" octagonal barrel engraved with old English script "Saml Colt" with flourishes, as well as a rope band around the muzzle. Frame engraved on the left side with "COLTS / PATENT" in an arc. Cylinder is standard 5-shot .31 caliber percussion roll stamped with the stagecoach holdup scene. Grip straps are silver plated and engraved with scroll and ray flourishes. Smooth 1-piece ivory grips. Matching numbers over with "I" mark designating ivory grips observed throughout. Revolver is housed in a portioned mahogany case with dual cavity Colt's Patent mold, brown lacquered Colt's Patent eagle motif flask, L tool, sealed wrapped 250 count Eley cap tin, 2 packets of combustible envelope cartridges, spare nipples, and a spare wedge. PROVENANCE: From the personal and advanced collection of Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: Near excellent. Barrel retains the vast majority of its brilliant original blue with some high edge wear and spots of toning. Cylinder also retains the majority of its blue with a largely legible cylinder scene, the balance fading to gray patina. Strong, attractive case colors displayed on frame, hammer, and loading lever. Grip straps retain nearly all of their richly toned silver plate, a few spots starting to thin to brass. Grips exhibit an even cream patina. Bore is bright with sharp rifling. Crisp mechanics. Case and accessories are fine overall. A highly attractive Young engraved Colt that displays very well with its accessories. A great addition to any collection.
