(A) FINE CONTEMPORARY FLINTLOCK KENTUCKY PISTOL BY

This fine contemporary pistol features a rifled two-stage barrel with a silver front sight and a scalloped notched rear sight. The breech is stamped "WK" and the top flat has a brass inlaid plaque inscribed "Peter Alexander Anno 1995". The pistol has many features reminiscent of Frederick Sell, including a brass lockplate with engraved designs and a molding at the tail, signed in the center "Peter Alexander". Brass furniture including a flat sideplate, engraved with scroll designs and floral motifs. The pommel cap is engraved with a large edelweiss around the screw. The trigger guard is also engraved on the bow with a flower and features a stylized Fleur-de-Lis finial. The nosecape is also engraved with borders and the barrel keys are brass. Highly figured maple stock of attractive form and relief carved scrolls around the barrel tang, with a bell flower carved around the ramrod entry ferrule. There is well-executed gadrooning in front of the lock and sideplate. Behind the lock and sideplate there are also silver hearts inlaid into the teardrop carving, as well as a silver oval wrist escutcheon. Also included is a well-made tiger maple pistol stand, made specifically for this pistol. CONDITION: Barrel retains a grey surface. Rifling is excellent and shows little use. Lock functions well and properly, and lockplate retains a mellowing mustard patina. Brass furniture retains a matching patina. Stock is excellent, with a few minor storage marks. A very attractive contemporary pistol, by a well-known contemporary maker.
