(A) FINE ENGLISH SILVER MOUNTED QUEEN ANNE FLINTLOCK OFFICER'S PISTOL BY ISAAC SMITH.

Isaac Smith worked as a gunmaker in London between 1727 and 1756. The tapered three-stage screw-barrel with turned cannon muzzle and relief ring. Left side of breech stamped with "(crown) / V" and "(crown) / P" London proof and view marks along with a crown over "F", meaning that Smith was not a member of the London Gunmaker's Guild. Top of breech engraved with an acanthus leaf followed by "LONDON". The lock is engraved "I. SMITH" towards the front. Engraved iron endcap and triggerguard terminating in an engraved foliate finial. Symmetrical solid silver wrist escutcheon and sideplate chased in great detail with a castle tower, sword, cannon, armor, and polearms. Solid silver grotesque mask pommel cap. The walnut stock has relief carved panels around lock and sideplate that terminate in the back with teardrops. Relief carving around the barrel tang with a fine shell design. CONDITION: Very good, barrel polished bright, proofs excellent. Barrel does not unscrew and has some scuffing. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration and is tight and functions well. Markings excellent. Silver mostly polished with pewter patina in lower areas. Stock very good with a couple minor mars. Attractive pistol dating to the first half of the 18th century.
