(A) FINE FLINTLOCK KENTUCKY RIFLE SIGNED J. WORLEY.

Jacob Worley worked near Wyomissing Creek, near Mohnton, just west of Reading, Pennsylvania in Berks County between 1811 and 1820, according to the fall 1976 Kentucky Rifle Association Bulletin. The full-length deeply rifled octagon barrel is stamped "J. WORLEY" in block letters on the underside. The front and rear sights are surrounded on both sides by engraved double lines on the top flat. The flat lockplate is stamped W. WATSON / WARRANTED" in the center and is decorated with sprigs of engraving. The brass furniture includes a four-piece patchbox with some engraved borders on the lid and skirts. The sideplate is flat and terminates in the back with an arrow, showing Lehigh County influence. The triggergaurd is faceted and also shows Lehigh influence with a lug in front of the bow. The rifle also has eleven silver inlays, four on each side of the forend, around barrel pins; an eight-point star above the cheekpiece, an oval wrist escutcheon, and a teardrop in front of the toeplate. There is also a brass touchhole pick and 2 brass loops beneath the molded cheekpiece. The full length partially figured maple stock is in the Berks County style with a Roman nose buttstock. Complete with its original wooden ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel retains a brown patina and bore is very good with deep rifling. Lock retains a brown patina and is in its original flintlock configuration, functions properly. Brass retains a mellow mustard patina. Stock has some repaired cracks on forend and some minor slivers replaced along barrel. An attractive signed Berks County rifle in original flintlock configuration.
