A fine pair of flintlock pistols

dating: circa 1700 provenance: France, Interesting smooth-bore, four-stage, 16 mm cal. barrels, an octagonal part after a short segment, chiselled with foliage in bass-relief, engraved with floral motifs, then square, with floral decorations in bass-relief and finally,round after the rings and with brass fore-sight; engraved tangs with sight; flintlocks, engraved and partially chiselled with floral motifs, cock's screw covered with a mask, batterie with a big mask. Wooden, full stocks (small repairs), slightly embossed with foliage; fine, iron mounts, with pierced counter-plates, decorated with horse-drawn carriage with a god (?), the other mounts with masks and floral motifs in bass-relief. Iron-tipped wooden ramrods. length 52.5 cm.
