A FINE RUSSIAN ICON PASSION AND FEASTS, PALEKH, 19TH C. A large and finely painted icon, surely from Palekh or by a Palekh trained artist. Exquisitely executed in miniature. At center, a depiction of the Resurrection and Descent surrounded by twelve scenes of the Passion of Christ and further surrounded by sixteen images representing the sixteen major church feast days, each with a corresponding inscription identifying the subject. The four corners painted with the Evangelists and at top center a gilt medallion painted with the Only Begotten Son and Word of God. In original, untouched condition. 17.5 inches x 14.75 inches (44.5 x 37.5 cm).
