(A) FINE SPECIAL ORDER WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 LEVER ACTION RIFLE
Per included factory research, this rifle shipped August 18, 1884 with half octagon barrel, case hardened receiver, plain trigger, and shotgun butt. Rifle remains in the configuration as shipped. Fitted with a blued 24" half octagon barrel chambered in .44-40 with Rocky Mountain front sight and sporting rear. 3rd Model case hardened receiver. 2-piece figured walnut stocks with case hardened nose cap and steel shotgun butt plate. CONDITION: Very fine. Barrel and magazine tube retain the majority of their thinning original factory blue with areas drifting to a toned patina. Receiver displays very attractive, strong and bright case colors with some mild spotting and wear along the high edges. Hammer and lever sides likewise retain strong, muted case hardening. The underside of the lever, as well as the mounts, have largely faded to a mottled patina. Stocks are especially fine with a few mild marks and dark spots of finish loss near the butt plate. Bore is bright and shiny with a sharp rifling and a few cleaned oxidation spots. Fine mechanics. An outstanding special order Winchester.
