A FINELY-CARVED WHITE JADE 'CRANE AND PEACH' BOX AND COVER
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The box and cover are carved in the form of a recumbent crane with its head turned sharply backwards, clasping a fruiting peach branch in its beak. The feathers are incised in fine detail and the crest is inset with orange agate. The stone is of a milky-white tone, with one or two subtle streaked inclusions.
