Description

Riding pistol for officer, signed VTTERBERG NORRKIÖPING. Petter Utterberg 1703-1800 was taught in David Bar's workshop in Stockholm. Commissioned by the Krigskollegium, Utterberg travelled around the German lands, France and England to recruit gunsmiths and learn more in the art of gunsmithing himself. His master piece was lost in the waves of the sea after he suffered shipwreck during the voyage home to Sweden. At the end of 1736, he returned to Sweden and undertook a new costly masterpiece, which was later approved and purchased for the King's Livery Chamber. In 1738 Utterberg became master and armor master at Norrköping's rifle factory. Utterberg had extensive production alongside his service on the factorium and many journeymen and apprentices passed through his workshop. On the autumn of his life, he probably returned to Stockholm.
