A FOSSILISED EXTINCT STEPPE BISON (BISON PRISCUS) ATLAS VERTEBRA BONE, PLEISTOCENE, 50,000 YEARS OLD the atlas bone is the most superior (first) cervical vertebra of the spine and is located in the neck - connecting the skull to the spine. It is named for Atlas of Greek mythology because, just as Atlas supported the globe, it supports the entire head. Collected from the bed of the North Sea, the specimen interestingly has a pebble and partial shell wedged within the foramens.the fossil 17cm wide x 13.5cm high
