A FRENCH FAIENCE OVAL FOOTED BASIN, LATE 17TH CENTURY

painted in blue and manganese in Chinese 'Transitional' style, the center of the interior with buildings in a landscape and the sides with seated figures and further buildings beneath a blue dash border around the molded rim, raised on four bun feet and affixed at each end with a rope twist handle, painted numeral 4.
length across the handles 20 in.

Condition Report:
The piece has likely been broken into two pieces and repaired. The is a crack which runs at approximately the middle of one long edge at the rim, through the base, to the other side terminating at the rim. The piece was once stabalized by rivets which have since been removed and the holes filled. Two of the feet restored, the third with a restored chip. Five small ares of loss along interior seam of cistern touched up.
