A FRENCH GILT METAL MOUNTED ALABASTER MANTLE CLOCK, BY EUGENÉ FARCOT, PARIS, LATE 19TH CENTURY, the arched cornice centering a twin stylized paisley mount enclosing leaf details, above tapered molding and a dentilated frieze ending in triple ringed pendants, over a conforming case centering a hinged glass bezel opening to a reverse decorated glass ring dial with blue Arabic numerals, surrounding the exposed brass clockworks and gilt metal halberd/spear form hands before a single key escapement, cornered on exterior face by rose gilt stylized starbursts over a rectangular base with molding trimmed in a gilt bronze filet and centering a matching paisley style mount, flanked by side pressed rose gilt maiden masks and raised on compressed bun form feet, verso circular removable brass plate revealing interior brass clockworks cover stamped with Farcot star/anchor/shield mark above "FARCOT BTÉ / S.G.D.G. / A PARIS." Height:12" Width: 8" Depth: 4 1/2" Note: Eugené Farcot, was a nineteenth-century Parisian clockmaker who worked from 1853-1890. During the late 1860s and early 1870s he was issued patents for various unusual clock designs, mechanisms, parts, etc. He retired in 1890 and passed the firm to his son-in-law. The BTÉ is an abbreviation for Breveté translation; Patented and the S.G.D.G. is Sans Guarantie Du Gouvernement, or Without Government Guarantee. Condition Report: Good condition with some expected tiny edge nicks, some normal slightly darkening areas from age and environment, starburst and maiden mask mounts are possibly later or re-gilt or both, one loose bun foot and surface buildup throughout.
