The pierced rim above a cylindrical Japanese lacquer section decorated in gold and black hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, kirikane and applied pieces of cut gold foil against a sprinkled-gold lacquer ground (nashiji), with cranes amongst pine trees and bamboo and with mon (circular crests) to each side, with mask mounts to the sides and on a foliate-cast base and scrolled foliate feet
