A Federal Carved Cherrywood Tall Case Clock
A Federal Carved Cherrywood Tall Case Clock
Mid-Atlantic States, c. 1800
with painted sun dial.
Height 82 1/2 x width 18 1/2 x depth 10 inches.
Property from the Dean Lower Estate, Lanark, Illinois American Furniture, Folk & Decorative Arts
In overall fine and stable condition. Old scuffs, marks and scratches consistent with age and use. The works appear to be original to the case, though it has likely be reset, moving the saddle board 1/4” forward or back. Craquelure visible to the dial and moonphase. The pendulum is replaced. The rosettes appear to be correct, though one is glued in place. There is one weight retained, though it is likely later and associated. Lacking winding key. The mechanism appears to be overwound so we are unable to fit a weight on it to see if it runs, though we are told it was previously running in the previous owner’s home.
