A Federal Inlaid Mahogany Tall Case Clock With Works by

[ translate ]

A Federal Inlaid Mahogany Tall Case Clock With Works by Frederick Wingate, Augusta, Maine
19th Century
Height 94 x width 19 1/2 x depth 9 3/4 inches.
Property from the Cynthia Moran Collection, Palm Beach
Condition Report: In fine condition. The case retains a fairly even refinished surface, thought the sides of the case appear slightly more red. The glass panel from the left side of the hood is detached, but retained. Takes a wind, but unsure of accuracy of the movement. The bottom board is broken out. There are two weights, however one of them has become detached from its hanging mechanism and will need to be mended. Old scuffs, marks and scratches consistent with age and use. The trunk door is replaced. The saddle board is replaced, so unable to definitively say that the works are original to the case, however the wear marks within the case from the pendulum line up. The moon phase/ship dial is repainted. Craquelure to the face throughout with some areas of loss. Areas of loss to the veneer at the base of the feet.
