from whom purchased by J Pierpont Morgan;
Christies North Mymms Park, September 1979, lot 506.
In BC 47 Cleopatra, having been dethroned, was preparing to enter Egypt to regain her throne at the same time as Caesar who was in, pursuit of his rival Pompey. Her charms gained her the support of Caesar as an ally.
