A Four-Piece Louis XVI L M Pluvinet Carved Giltwood Fauteuil and Canapé Suite with Aubusson Tapestry Upholstery, France, circa 1780 Marks to canapé and two fauteuils: L M Pluvinet 44-3/4 x 89-1/4 x 30 inches (113.7 x 226.7 x 76.2 cm) (canapé) 40-1/2 x 25-1/2 x 24 inches (102.9 x 64.8 x 61 cm) (fauteuils) PROVENANCE: Christie's, New York, French and Continental Furniture, Works of Art, Tapestries, March 30, 1999, lot 268 The suite each covered with Aubusson tapestry depicting various hunting scenes and La Fontaine tales and framed with nail head trim; the frames with carved floral crests, entwining ribbons, and husk motifs resting on turned tapering fluted legs headed by panelled flowerheads; the canapé and one fauteuil stamped with a crown and three flowerheads.
