A French Cartier Art Deco diamond and onyx bow brooch

Circa 1925, platinum, signed: Cartier / Paris / 5524
Centering an old mine-cut diamond gauged at approximately 0.70 ct. and graded G-H color, VS clarity surrounded by one hundred-six single and old mine-cut diamonds totaling approximately 3.00 cts. and graded G-H color, VS-SI clarity, further set with calibre-cut onyx tablets

Provenance: A gift from Mary Miller, wife of Governor Nathan Miller of New York (1921-1922), to their daughter Mildred Miller McCarthy. Willed to their daughter, Mildred Miller McCarthy, thence by descent to the present owner. Mildred can be seen on the far right of the accompanying photograph wearing the brooch on a meeting with President John F. Kennedy at the White House with her daughter Patricia and her husband Edward Korry just after he was named Ambassador to Ethiopia.
Condition Report: Overall good condition with scattered light scratches commensurate with age. A small dent to the side of the cage. Scattered onyx with chips and abrasions. Very minor scattered abrasions to the diamonds. The pin back is later added possibly converted from a hair ornament. A small solder repair verso.
