'Chevaux de course et jockeys' was first exhibited at the Salon of 1885 (N° 3707) and again at the Exposition Universelle four years later. The model was so well received by critics that Frémiet subsequently sent it on show abroad, firstly to Antwerp in 1885 and then to Copenhagen in 1888.
Emmanuel Frémiet (French, 1824-1910) is now perhaps most famous for his sculpture of Joan of Arc in Paris and the monument to Ferdinand de Lesseps in Suez.
