A French Silver-Gilt Basket With Indistinct Maker's Mark, Standard Mark Apparently Lacking, First Half 20th Century

[ translate ]

oval and on four cast ram's mask-cast foliage and hoof feet, the sides pierced with foliage scrolls and ribbon-tied swags, each long side with a vacant cartouche supported by doves and flanked by putto, with two scroll handles 30cm wide, 21oz 5dwt, 661gr

Marked underneath with maker's mark. The standard mark is apparently lacking. The makers mark is rather indistinct/rubbed. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The wear is noticeable as a softening to the gilding in places and to the high points. Some areas of piercing are lacking. There is some bruising to the piercing in places. The gilding is later, perhaps done to disguise some repairs. A Condition Report is an honest expression of our opinion, not a statement of fact and is provided as a service to the Seller. All lots are available on public view ahead of an auction and we encourage people to see an item in person when possible. Our Condition Reports are not prepared by professional conservators, restorers or engineers, and are prepared with the naked eye unless otherwise stated. Works are not examined out of the frame, unless specifically stated. We accept no liability for the opinions expressed in any Condition Report. Tennants Auctioneers do not cover damage to gilded wood or plaster picture frames, or to picture frame glass whilst the item is in our possession.
