A French gilt bronze globe clock in Louis XVI style

[ translate ]

A French gilt bronze globe clock in Louis XVI style, late 19th century, the movement with annular white enamel Roman numeral tablet dial with Arabic five minutes to a separate track within a spheroid surmounted by a cherub and held aloft by three nymphs, each portrayed nude but for a festoon on a marble triform base with gilt metal mounts and toupie feet, 80cm high overall

Provenance: Property from a Private Collection

Condition Report:
Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use, some small minor chips and losses to the edges of the marble, some wear to gilt areas. The movement is not designed to have a pendulum so none is present, there is a key present, the movement is ticking at time of report but Dreweatts cannot test the movement and we make no guarantees it is fully working and make no comments as to accuracy of the time keeping. The cabochon numeral dial with some small cracks. The gilt metal with some surface verdigris and discolouration, also surface dirt, also patches of wear. The dome of the case with wear. The central cherub finial holding a torch aloft - this torch is loose - it sits in the cherubs hand and there is signs of old glue present, this probably needs re-attaching properly. Please see additional images for visual reference to condition
