A GEORGE II GILTWOOD WALL MIRROR IN THE MANNER OF MOORE & GUMLEY, CIRCA 1725 122cm high, 75.5cm wide overallFor a related form of mirror, see Graham Child, World Mirrors: 1650-1900, Sotheby's Publications, 1990, page 79, plate 57. Condition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions comensurate with age and useOld chips and splits, some old losses. The frame appears cleaned overall and gilding refreshed throughout but the signs of age remain and with some wear to the gilding in areas. The side edges of the frame appear to have had a later wash applied to them. This is faithful to period and style but relatively recent. Lacking a rear panel to the mirror plate. The reverse of the mirror has a modern paper covering. The mirror plate is a later replacement, the edges appear to be hand bevelled. The central element of the surmount can be moved in position and may have been re-attached from the reverse. It does appear original and of the period. The candle arm brackets and candle arms are later associated but faithful to the period taste. The design of the mirro rclearly suggests that candle brackets and arms were positioned there originally. To some areas there are signs of a pink colour likely where underlying 'bole' (preparation for gilding has been affected/ been partially revealed over time and restoration. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition. Condition Report Disclaimer
