A GEORGE II MAHOGANY AND NEEDLEWORK INSET HEXAGONAL 'BIRDCAGE' TRIPOD TABLECIRCA 1750Approximately 72cm high, the top approximately 65cm diameter Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition. Some evidence of a surface stain/ varnish to the base that is very thin, this may have been applied due to historic fading and could be improved by a restorer. The stretchers to the underside of the top may be old replacements or have been reduced in length. There is old evidence of screw holes nearer to the outer edge of the underside of the top (see images) The timber does appear to have significant age. The stretchers have been applied previously with a thin varnish/ stain which has since been scratched away significantly. There are some old worm holes to the stretchers. The brass catch to the underside of the top appears original but appears likely to have been moved slightly previously where it may have previously become loose. The textile strip bordering the needlework panel is likely a replacement and has some minor losses throughout and is lifted and torn in one place. Some loose threads and old losses to the needlework panel. The needlework panel appears to have been cleaned and restored previously. There may be old replacements to the needlework but it is difficult to conclude how much is replaced or re-woven. There are no old breaks or splicing to the legs or feet. Condition Report Disclaimer
