A GEORGE II MAHOGANY WALL LANTERNPOSSIBLY IRISH, CIRCA 1755 53cm high, 30cm wide, 20cm deep For a related wall lantern see, Christie's, London, Fine English Furniture, 10th March 2005, Lot 163 (£4,800). Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old splits and chips. Four panes of glass appear to be replacements, one pane is original. The glass used in the replacements is period and has the expected slight 'movement' and small 'bubbling'. The putty used to secure the glass is untidy in areas and has various losses. There are later tacks securing the backboards. The backboard was likely previously covered by paper or tape. The backboard has a cleaned appearance. The mirror plate appears to be original but it is difficult to guarantee that it is not an old replacement. It bears losses, bloom and depletion. There is a small old screw hole to the interior at one side of the frame of the mirror plate. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition. Condition Report Disclaimer
