A GEORGE II SILVER BASKET MARK OF PETER ARCHAMBO, LONDON, 1740

Shaped oval and on four grotesque mask feet, the apron pierced with foliate scrolls and two Ceres masks in Rococo cartouches, the sides pierced with scrolls and diaperwork below a border of leafy vine tendrils and bunched grapes, with two female masks, the scroll swing handle with female bust terminal and chased Rococo motifs on the flat section, engraved in centre with a coat-of-arms in a large cartouche framed
with shells, leaves and scrolls on matted ground, the swing handle engraved with a crest, slightly later engraved underneath with inscription, marked underneath and engraved with scratch weight 75=15

The later inscription reads EX DONO ROBERTUS FENWICK ARM FEBRUARY 1759.

The arms are those of Fenwick impaling another, possibly Colville, for Robert Fenwick (1717-1802) and his wife Jane, daughter of Edward Colville of Whitehouse, widow of Charles Clerk of Newcastle and sister of Camilla, Countess of Tankerville, whom he married in 1739.
