A GEORGE II WALNUT AND FEATHER BANDED CHEST ON CHEST CIRCA 1730172cm high, 110cm wide, 55cm deep For a related chest on chest but without fluted and canted angles to the lower section, see Christie's, London, Julians Park and Six Private Collections, 8th June 2021, Lot 163 (£7,500). Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Old splits and chips. Some veneer and moulding repairs with sections re-stuck and section of replacement - see images.Old worm holes visible to chest in areas throughout - see images for extent. Dark wax/filler has been used in places to help disguise. One lock is a later replacement. The other appear original but have some later screws securing them. Two keys are present and operate all locks. Handles are original or period replacement using the same holes. There is no evidence of other handles being fitted. The timber has a faded appearance overall. The feet are well matched later replacements. There are splits running down the sides of the upper and lower sections with filler and some slithers of replacement timber applied to them.
