A GEORGE III MAHOGANY CANDLE STAND, with circular top, fluted stem and shaped circular base, together with a Victorian walnut 'face et nuque' mirror, circa 1856, the walnut frame of turned spindles and with arched mirror plate. Expanding section holding the back (missing). The metal back part painted to resemble wood. (Incomplete and damaged.) Cf. Heal's catalogue of 1856-7 and a George III style Victorian mahogany fire screen, late 19th century, with a rising panel on trestle supports, filled with petit point needlework of flowers on black ground and with a narrow projecting work tray. Candle stand: 30cm high Mirror: 42cm high Fire screen: 81cm high x 42cm wide x 38cm deep Provenance: From a collection of furniture and antiques left to the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB ) in 1939 by Evelyn Stannus of Kensington. Items in the collection are believed to have come from Ireland.
