A GILT BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI, LAOS, 16TH-17TH CENTURY
Finely cast seated in dhyanasana with his right hand lowered in bhumisparshamudra while the left rests on his lap in dhyana mudra, wearing a tight-fitting sanghati draped over his left shoulder, his face with meditative expression, strong arched eyebrows above neatly incised downcast eyes, full lips forming a calm smile, flanked by long pendulous earlobes, the hair arranged in tight spikes over the high ushnisha.
Provenance: From a German private collection.
Condition: Good condition with old wear, casting flaws, flaking to gilt, remnants of pigment, losses, nicks, scratches. Fine, naturally grown patina with small areas of malachite encrustation.
