A GILT-LACQUERED BRONZE FIGURE OF STANDING BUDDHA, RATTANAKOSING PERIOD

Thailand, late 18th - 19th century. Finely and heavily cast standing in samabhanga atop a circular lotus dais raised on a tiered octagonal base, both hands thrust forward in abhaya mudra. Wearing a diaphanous sanghati draping elegantly from his arms, tied at the waist by a sash. His serene face finely modeled with full lips forming a calm smile and heavy-lidded eyes, flanked by long pendulous lobes. The hair arranged in tight curls over the domed ushnisha topped by a siraspata. The base is ornately decorated and cast with a ring-form strut to the back.

Provenance: English trade.
Condition: Very good condition with expected old wear, casting flaws, small nicks, some flaking to the gilt lacquer, and the base preserving the original casting core inside.
