Circular, the lid inset with a miniature of a natural arch on the coast; the base inset with a miniature by another hand, of bucolics dancing by a fountain, French School, late 18th century, contained in a later fitted red morocco leather case with a trade label of Storr & Mortimer; apparently unmarked; together with a cut down gold-mounted tortoiseshell lid, inset with a capriccio landscape on paper, signed A. Chaplin, apparently unmarked
9.5cm., 3¾in. wide; 8cm., 3⅛in. wide;
Condition Report:
First, box, generally good but two of the four mounts are cracked and loose; red leather case scuffed but sound, box and case no longer fit
Second, lid, miniature good, tortoiseshell cut down and a little nibbled at edges
