A GOLD-LACQUER FIVE-CASE INRO

Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century
The kinji ground decorated in black, gold, silver and red takamaki-e with five cockerels, three huddled together on one side and two foraging for food on the reverse, the interior of rich nashiji; inscribed with a spurious signature reading possibly Shoami Shoga/Tsugumasa. 8cm x 5.5cm (3 1/8in x 2 1/8in).
