A GOOD EARLY 20TH C. BLACK FOREST BEAR GROUP FOR CIGARS
The hand carved figure group with adult bear seated on craggy base wearing a basketry burden pack emanating a bear cub; the cub with black bead eyes serves as handle on cover of a cigar holder, behind the larger bear is a square carved wood post for the mounting of a match box with sliding lid. In front, the mother bear with glass eyes holds a brass basin for matches and ashes. The figure group is well-carved with good proportions, the features are pleasant and charming and the patina is warm and mellow.
Measures 11 x 11 x 3 inches.
