A GROUP OF TWO AFRICAN KOTA COPPER COVERED WOOD RELIQUARY FIGURES, GABON, 20TH CENTURY, one with applied brassy golden paint finish on an arched crest trimmed in continuous impressed dots, centering a triangular panel of cross hatched alternating blank lozenges, mounted on an oval head with large forehead enclosing a vertical central band of dots, over a recessed concave face with two bone disc eyes and a short pointed nose above cheeks of diagonal reeding, flanked by large flat curved panels continuing dot trim and dissected by flaring twist reeded bands over a baseband of zig-zags suspending cylindrical pendants, raised on a short rectangular torso covered in cushion diamond form patterned copper sheeting, ending on open diamond formed legs bent at knees and wearing basketweave decorated knee britches height: 24"; together with another Kota figure in Mahongwe style and spade form with arched crest above domed eyes on copper strip applied sides suspending cylindrical pendants, flanking a thin flaring nose on a vertical panel with "X" details, raised on a short square form torso covered in matching strips and ending on open lozenge formed legs covered in copper sheets, elevated on a dome form wood base.
