A George I Figured Walnut Tall Case Clock

Nathaniel Seddon, London, Circa 1720

the dial marked Nathaniel Seddon/ At St. James's.
Height 85 1/4 x width 19 3/4 x depth 9 7/8 inches.

Property from the Estate of Charles and Lorraine Janda, Hinsdale, Illinois Clocks, Barometers & Scientific Instruments
With case key, winding crank, two weights and pendulum. The clock winds, runs and strikes when the hands are advanced, but has not been tested for duration or accuracy of timekeeping. The movement appears to be original, since the "shoulder" of the case has not been visibly altered, but we cannot be certain. Probably needs a professional tune-up. The cables have been replaced with modern cables. The case in attractive, well-conserved condition with minimal discolorations, scratches, a few tight veneer cracks; small areas of re-touched veneer, a chip on the top corner of the door. Back boards in fine condition, seeming original.

Provenance:
Ronald A. Lee Fine Arts Ltd., London, 1982
