[ translate ]

A George I walnut and feather banded chest of drawers, circa 1720, in the manner of Giles Grendy, the rectangular caddie top with moulded edge, above a brushing slide and four long graduated drawers, on bracket feet, 81cm high, 78cm wide, 50cm deep

For a closely related chest see Christie's, King Street, London, The English Collector, 17th May 2017, Lot 2 (£57,600). For a further very closely related example, see Christie's, King Street, London, The English Collector & Tapestries, 31st October 2012, Lot 71 (£20,000).

Condition Report:
Marks, scratches and abrasions comensurate with age and use. Some old chips and splits, some small losses, some minor old repairs. Some relatively minor old worm damage. To the exterior mainly only visible in an area of the right side panel (see images) Some fading throughout, to a golden colour. Two strips of old replaced veneer towards the rear edge of the right hand side panel. These replacements seem certainly to have significant age. The book matched veneer to the top is original. As are the feet, rear panels and drawer linings. The blocks supporting the feet are later replacements but stained to match and have some age. The handles appear original. There are no alternate holes or marks for handles. The locks are possibly associated but are of 18th century date . Lacking keys. Please refer additional images for visual reference to condition.
