[ translate ]

tapering cylindrical and on stepped slightly spreading foot, with fluted scrolling spout, the hinged cover with acorn finial, the body engraved with a coat-of-arms within drapery mantling, with carved wood handle 21cm high, 23oz 8dwt, 728gr The arms are those of Trayton impaling Parker, for Nathaniel Trayton (1700-1757) of Lewes and his wife Philadelphia. Trayton was the younger son of Nathaniel Trayton (1663-1714), a prominent lawyer of School Hill, Lewes and Southover Manor, Sussex. Like his father, Trayton was to become a lawyer of King's Bench Walk, Inner Temple, London. He married, in 1739, Philadelphia, the youngest daughter of Sir George Parker, 2nd Baronet of Ratton in Sussex. On the death of Philadelphia's brother, the 3rd Baronet, without issue Nathaniel and his wife inherited the estates of the Parker Baronets.

Fully marked near handle and further part marked inside cover. There is some wear to the marks near the handle but each is still legible. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The wear is noticeable as a minor softening to the engraving. The wood handle is perhaps replaced. A Condition Report is an honest expression of our opinion, not a statement of fact and is provided as a service to the Seller. All lots are available on public view ahead of an auction and we encourage people to see an item in person when possible.
