A George II burr walnut and feather banded chest on chest

[ translate ]

A George II burr walnut and feather banded chest on chest, circa 1735, the moulded cornice above three short and three long graduated drawers flanked by fluted angles, the lower section with a brushing slide above three long graduated drawers, the lowest drawer centred by a concave section decorated with parquetry 'compass' dial motif, on shaped bracket feet, 174cm high, 107cm wide, 55cm deep

Provenance: Property from a private estate, Wiltshire

Condition Report:
Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old chips and splits. Some losses. Some old repairs. Locks are likely later associated but 18th century. A key is present and only operates some of the locks. Some locks require attention to operate. Handles appear to be of the period, no other clear evidence of marks or holes to the exterior of the drawer fronts from alternate handles. Although, the reverse of each drawer front there is a drilled hole between the current handle fixtures possibly suggesting an alternate set of handles. (see images) Two of the locks to the small drawers have white plaster/ composition filling them (the locks remain in position) There are small nail/ pin holes adjacent to the current escutcheons suggesting that larger escutcheons were previously in position. The current escutcheons do not match the current handles. Some fixtures (nuts) to the current handles have been replaced and some are lacking. One handle is loose from one side but the fixtures except the securing nut are present. The key escutcheons are possibly associated. Some drawers have stuck down plastic lining. The feet appear original, as does the central 'pendant' detail to the apron (beneath parquetry section) The surface overall appears original and retains good colour and patina. The piece is also of good scale/ proportion. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition.
