A George II/George III mahogany clothes press, circa 1750-1760, in the manner of Thomas Chippendale, the panel doors enclosing four linen slides, the base with two short and one long drawer on bracket feet, 160cm high, 122cm wide, 62cm deep
Provenance: Private collection, Hampshire, previously removed from Bracklyn Castle, County Westmeath, Ireland and Aden House, Aberdeenshire, Scotland
This design of clothes press with two short above one long drawer is comparable to a "Cloaths Prefs' illustrated by Thomas Chippendale in The Cabinet Maker's Director (1762) plate CXXIX and also in a clothes press attributed to the "Dumfries Cabinet Maker" (widely believed to be Chippendale) that was sold by Christies in their sale 7-8 July 2010, lot Lot 478 for a hammer price of £1,125
