A George II walnut chest on stand, circa 1740, 105.5cm high, 100cm wide, 53cm deep Provenance: Private Collection, Berkshire, and previously sold in these rooms, 17th May 1989, Lot 156 (£1,500)Condition Report: Please note, the stand and the moulding at the base of the chest are later. It is likely that the chest originally formed the upper section of a chest on chest. Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Various old splits and chips. Some small losses and sections of replacement veneer. Of cleaned/polished appearance. Some evidence of old worm. Handles and escutcheons are possibly original. Lock plates are old replacements. No key present, all locks are open. Of solid structure overall. Sections of loss to veneer at back corners of the top. Section of replacement veneer inset to one canted corner.
