A George III South Staffordshire gilt-metal-mounted enamel snuff box, late 18th century, of rectangular form, the exterior decorated with scrolls and floral sprays in white enamel against a dark green ground, the mount with wave ornament to the front, opening to reveal a finely painted portrait of a seated lady in fine attire and holding a fan to the interior lid, 4cm high, 8.3cm wide, 6.4cm deep

Provenance: Property from the estate of the late David Cornwell, best known as the author John le Carré.

Condition Report:

The exterior with two or three tiny nicks to the enamel and surface wear/dirt consistent with age and use (more so to the underside). The gilt rim to the box has been re-attached and there is the residue from the glue around the inside edge. The interior portrait in good order with three nicks to the left edge by the mount. The mounts are tarnished consistent with age and use.
