A George III brass bound octagonal mahogany wine cooler, circa 1780, of octagonal outline, the hinged lid enclosing a lined interior and later circular liner, with flanking lion mask handles, 36cm high, 46cm wideProvenance: From the private collection of Sir David and Lady Scholey Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and useThe present liner is a later addition - it has wear, rust, corrosion consistent with age and use - dreweatts cannot guarantee if it still is water proof or if the metal is still stable and could carry a volume of ice and wine. When this is removed the original zinced timber is visable The joints are opening in places, especially the upright timber with the hinges to the top this is loose and will require some re-attachmentThe metal bindings with some discolouration but have been polishedSome old splits and cracks, There is the old drainage hole to the base - there is no spiggot fittedThis would have originally sat on a stand - this is not present with the lot and has never been with Dreweatts - if they buyer wished to raise this to the correct height they would need to source a stand for this.
