A George III japanned mahogany sideboard
Late 18th/early 19th century, later decoration
Signed in gilt cartouche to top drawer: R Garrett 1998
The Hepplewhite-style mahogany wood console table with serpentine front, later ebonized and japanned with polychromed and gilt painted cloud, floral, and geometric motifs, featuring a single drawer centering two hinged cabinet doors, each with brass hardware and locking latches
36.25" H x 72" W x 27.25" D
Condition Report: Overall good condition with scattered scuffs, scratches, nicks, shrinkage cracks, indentations, and separation at joints commensurate with age. The top later added with two 24" cracks in the finish. A 3" long crack in the wood to front above cabinet. Some chipped losses to the wood at corners. Scattered rubbed wear to japanned details. Includes key. Condition reports are offered as a courtesy and are typically published in Moran's catalogue or can be made available upon request. The absence of a condition report does not imply that an item is free from defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of others. Buyers are responsible for determining to their own satisfaction the true nature and condition of any lot prior to bidding. Though buyers are not legally required to inspect lots prior to purchase, failure to do so may constitute a waiver of complaint that an item was not delivered in a condition equal to the existent condition at the auction.
