[ translate ]

A George III mahogany and marquetry inlaid bureau bookcase, circa 1800, inlaid throughout with floral scrolls and bell flower swags, the 'swan neck' pediment above a pair of panel doors centred by floral bouquets incorporating musical instruments and urns, opening to a shelved interior, the lower section with a fall centred by a rams head mounted urn, opening to reveal an arrangement of drawers and pigeon holes around a central cupboard door, above two short and three long graduated drawers, on bracket feet, 268cm high, 118cm wide, 58cm deep

Condition Report:
Marks, scratches and abrasions, some old chips and splits comensurate with age and use. Some small losses, mainly only to moulding at the rear corners where the top and base meet. cleaned, restored appearance generally. Some fading to colour overall. There is evidence of surface filler throughout (fine pale coloured grain filler (see images) This is typical of the early 20th century so likely is an insight into when the item was throughly cleaned and restored. The drawer interiors are also cleaned throughout but bear some splits to the linings or atleast some minor division between the planks of timber formingt he floors of the drawer linings. The locks to the upper doors and fall are present and appear original. The single key that operates both, is present with the lock. The handles to the drawers appear original. There are no additional or alternate handle holes. The drawer locks and key escutcheons are likely replaced but have been put in very neatly. The key(s) to the drawer locks are lacking. A key is present to operate the small door to the interior of the fall, it does operate the lock however this seems too small so may not be original. The floors of the pigeon holes to the interior bear dark/ ink staining throughout. The hinges to the fall appear original. Please refer to the additional images for visual reference to condition. The images are not exhaustive in terms of showing condition issues but try to show the most obvious condition issues.
