A George III mahogany drum library table, circa 1800

[ translate ]

A George III mahogany drum library table, circa 1800, the circular top with tooled leather inset surface, above four frieze drawers interspersed by four false drawer fronts, the turned tapering stem on four reeded downswept tapering legs terminating in brass caps and castors, one drawer stamped 'W & C WILKINSON LUDGATEHILL 1964' another drawer with retail plaque for 'Apter-Fredricks', 75cm high, 106cm diameter

Condition Report:
Marks ,scratches and abrasions comensurate with age and use. some minro old repairs. some minor losses. There are additional dark scratches to the veneer at the edges of the top (see images) in some places. The handles and locks to the drawers are original. lacking keys. One lock has been drilled fromt he reverse and some solder appears to be present (see image) this may mean the lock is no longer operational. The leather to the top has age but may not be original. The leather bears various discoloured stains (see images) The gilt tooling to the top is finely executed. The drawer linings are all solid mahogany throughout. A good sign of quality. The stamp mark is a little difficult to read but probably reads; "W&C Wilkinson 14 Ludgatehill 1964". Presumably 1964 may be a stock reference or inventory number? Label for Apter Fredericks looks to be genuine (Please see additional images) The downswept legs of the table appear entirely genuine and original as do the casters. Whilst other designs of caster exist of course in this period, all physical evidence of this table and the experience of very closely related tables would not cause us to doubt the originality.
