A George III polished walnut bracket clock, dial of brass, movement with strike-silent and calendar. Signed Dan. De. St. Leu, London. England, 18th century. H. 48 cm.

Daniel de St Leu (active 1753–97) produced some of the most exquisite and elaborate watches of the eighteenth century. Gaining royal favour, he was appointed to Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III in 1765 and held this title for the rest of his life. He also made a bracket clock in a silver case to the Spanish Court. His work is represented at the Louvre, London Museum and The Dennison collection.
