A George III serpentine fronted chest of drawers, attributed to Henry Kettle, circa 1770, the serpentine shaped and banded top above a dressing slide and four long graduated drawers, flanked by narrow fluted angles, on shaped bracket feet, 81cm high, 92cm wide, 53cm deep
The distinctive design of the feet and narrow fluted angles are typical features used by the maker Henry Kettle. From around 1774 Kettle took over the firm of Philip Bell at 23 St. Pauls Church Yard. Various labelled pieces by the maker are known and some bills dated 1796-97 are recorded as being at Saltram Castle, Devon. The bills at Saltram are headed Oakley & Kettle indicating Kettles short lived partnership with George Oakley at the time.
