[ translate ]

A George III silver chamberstick, the circular base with beaded border, central urn socket and removable nozzle of conforming style, the curved thumb-piece handle with associated detachable conical extinguisher, the nozzle, thumb-piece and extinguisher with engraved crests. Hallmarked London 1785, maker's mark partly obscured possibly Digby Scott & Benjamin Smith I. Diameter of base exclusive of handle measuring 5 1/2 inches (14 cm), gross weight 8.4 ozt (261.4 grams). In poor to fair condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The associated extinguisher appears unmarked and has a significant worn crest with only a faint impression visible, it does not sit well in the bracket on the handle and rests to one side, construction seam visible beneath the handle. The beaded borders are significantly worn, especially to the nozzle. Visible signs of a significant repair to the handle, there is a raised patch added to the top of the base above the handle join, the piece beneath does not fit smoothly with the base with gaps either side. Small area of pitted dents to the centre of the base. Main maker's mark obscured, partial maker's mark slightly more clear but still obscured, other hallmarks rubbed but still legible.
